Our expertise is innovative solutions for supplementation of livestock

We have since year 2000 delivered mineral feeders to livestock farmers in Europe and overseas via a network of distributors. Our feeders comprise advanced IoT solutions with individual dosing as well as free-choice feeders, and are available in models for use inside stables and outside during grazing. Our feeders are aimed at better productivity and welfare for the livestock and higher profitability for the livestock owners. As a true B4B company, all our products are self-developed, and most have obtained a patent.

MicroFeeder offers mineral feeders as well as some tools in relation to their use:

Products

Our feeders comprise advanced IoT solutions with individual dosing as well as free-choice feeders, and are available in models for use inside stables and outside during grazing. Our MicroFeeder brand comprise MineralRocker, BasisFeeder, PitstopBASIS and PitstopPLUS. We also developed a heated water trough, especially for horses.

Software

We have developed various on-line software, among other PitstopPLUS Manager for managing PitstopPLUS feeders. MineralCalculator is a decision support system for calculation of livestock's need for minerals and for assessing the amount and price of mineral feed supplements that complies with the need.

The forerunner for MicroFeeder was the company, "HETHO I/S", which in the period from 1992 to 1999 produced the MineralRocker mineral feeder in a glassfibre version for the Danish market.

Our company was registered first time on 11 May 1998 under the name "MicroFeeder", similar to the name of our mineral feeder brand. The date also marked the initiation of a development project to switch from glassfibre to plastic in the production of the MineralRocker. The company changed name to "enAgro" in 2008 and back to "MicroFeeder" in 2018. The company was in 2019 converted to a private shareholding company.

BasisFeeder was introduced in 2012, and our heated water trough in 2015. PitstopBASIS was introduced on the market in an initial version in 2016.

MicroFeeder's logo consists in its simplicity of the name MicroFeeder written in a special way: Different colours - black and grey - underline that MicroFeeder consists of two words. The 'e' letters in 'Feeder' are turned upside down and resembles in this way mineral feeders. Click on the logo here to download it in high resolution.

Profile and major milestones

  • 2022

    PitstopPLUS market launch

PitstopPLUS, our system for precision supplementation of transition dairy cows is launched on the market, and is in that connection presented at EuroTier 2022. PitstopPLUS is a smart livestock farming system, which means practical and economic use of feed additives and mineral feed supplements, including microminerals, which especially has an effect on dairy cows in the critical period of the lactation from approx. 3 weeks before calving and until approx. 3 months after calving.

PitstopPLUS is based on a need for rethinking dairy cow supplementation. Results of practical tests within the framework of the IoF2020 mega-project very clearly demonstrated the justification of the technology, which, among other things, resulted in 23% fewer disease incidences requiring the involvement of a veterinarian, and 19% lower somatic cell counts.

  • 2019

MicroFeeder strengthens the management and capital base

MicroFeeder was on 12 March 2019 converted to a private shareholding company, and has in this connection got new company registration and VAT number, DK40340793 and new bank account. The conversion was made as part of a development strategy of the company. MicroFeeder was earlier a private statutary company.

  • 2018

    Name change and upgraded facilities

After being named enAgro for 10 years, the company changed its name back to MicroFeeder on 1 July 2018. Various activities were simultaneously transferred to Organe Institute ApS. MicroFeeder thus appears as a B4B development and production company, which with its name can better profile the MicroFeeder brand of mineral feeders.

MicroFeeder got furthermore its warehouse facilities upgraded by end of 2018, so that all raw materials now are stored indoors.

  • 2016

    PitstopBASIS

MicroFeeder PitstopBASIS is launched in Denmark after a 2-years development period, taking basis on a survey of dairy farmers' practices concerning mineral supplementation of their cows.

The Pitstop feeder meets the growing challenge of keeping high perforances of dairy cows in the critical period that starts 2-3 weeks before calving and lasts until the cow again is in energy balance, when the feed intake matches the feed demand, typically around 100 days after calving.

Danish Innobooster co-financing made it possible to make the final development in a more professional way, to monitor the feeder performance in a number of dairy herds, to develop add-on facilities with RFID-based dosing to enhance the function of the feeder and to initiate the testing of prototypes of these, as well as carrying out a freedom-to-operate analysis.

  • 2012

    MicroFeeder warehouse

The amount of goods in and out of our store has increased since the introduction of BasisFeeder. We have therefore in autumn 2013 completed the improvement and expansion of our storage facilities in Hornslet.

  • 2012

    BasisFeeder enters the market

The MicroFeeder BasisFeeder was introduced on the market early 2012, becoming a new member of the MicroFeeder family, along with the renowned MicroFeeder MineralRocker. The BasisFeeder supplements the MineralRocker, which despite its uniqueness has a few shortcomings, for instance that it cannot be used by cattle with long horns.

The BasisFeeder is also superb for sheep, wherefore the marketing and sale of the MineralRocker for sheep was ceased during 2012.

The BasisFeeder is further developed from similar mineral feeder types on the US market, and is due to its Reuleaux triangle-inspired form characterised by having a high capacity despite its small squared dimension.

Furthermore, we do not keep red tops for the MineralRocker in stock anymore becasue of a low demand; most farmers prefer a green or blue MineralRocker.

  • 2008

10 years jubilee and new storage facilities

MicroFeeder could on 11 May 2008 celebrate its 10 years jubilee.

We can look back on a true success history, where we have introduced a method for supplementation of grazing livestock and livestock kept in free housing systems and in runyards, a method which in all aspects is production economically optimal and which were almost unknown before we entered the scene.

We have simultaneously with the jubilee taken our new store facilities on the address Holmagervej 1F, DK8543 Hornslet, into use, and we are now taking care of the store, for assembly and shipping ourselves.

The MicroFeeder company changed per 4 September 2008 its name to enAgro. MicroFeeder continues as a trademark of enAgro.

  • 2000

    International sale

The new model in plastic was introduced on the market in 2000, and Vitfoss became official dealer in Denmark already in the first sales year. Vitfoss made a nationwide sales campaign where they offered a concept-package consisting of a mineral feeder and an amount of free choice mineral supplements.

Vitfoss' campaign became a tremendous success, and there were in two months sold no less than 1,100 concept-packages. Farmers had now a good concept for mineral supplementation and Vitfoss' sale of mineral supplements increased - a win-win situation!

The price of the new mineral feeder in plastic was only half of the price of its predecessor in glass fibre, and the production in plastic made it possible to staple parts on pallets and transport them relatively cheap, wherefore export became a realistic opportunity.

The sale abroad started already in year 2000 where we exported to Germany, Holland and Sweden.

The mineral feeder is today sold in about 15 European countries - the Danish market is still very important and around 80% of the production goes to export. Supplementation after free choice in a MicroFeeder mineral feeder has become an acknowledged method in many European countries and many mineral producers are now marketing so-called free choice mineral supplements, which among other via the content of salt are designed so that the livestock's intake of it is pre-determined quite precisely.

The mineral feeder was developed with grazing cattle in mind and it has turned out that it also suits horses and sheep, and that it also functions well in runyards and free housing systems.

There has been developed a special model for sheep, and there have been made several adaptations and improvements of the design of the bottom part.

  • 1998

Innovation project and birth of MicroFeeder

The present model in plastic was developed in a two years innovation project from 1998 to 2000, and it has several advantages in relation to the previous model in glass fibre, which from a closer glance has a quite different design.

The innovation project was supported by the Danish Food Industry Agency under the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries.

The development of the new model in plastic has among other been based on a survey of 99 users of the previous model in glass fibre.

The final stages of the innovation project contained an international test-marketing and formulation of applications for design protection and patent in several countries.

MicroFeeder was officially registered as a company on 11 May 1998.

  • 1992

    MineralRokker in glasfibre

A mineral feeder in glass fibre was introduced by the company HETHO I/S after inspiration from USA.

This picture shows the previous model, which was produced in glass fibre and sold in Denmark. There were sold around 2,500 units of it, corresponding to no less than around 10% of Danish cattle herds with grazing animals, despite low marketing efforts and a higher price than the present model made of plastic.

The mineral feeder was design protected by the Danish patent authorities.

  • 1992

    The need is concretised

The awareness of the importance of correct mineral supplementation, not at least for dairy heifers, is raised along with increasing productivity in the cattle production.

Research results showed a clear correlation between the daily gain of heifers and their later production economy value as dairy cow.

Many farmers did not give their grazing livestock any mineral supplementation. Lick stones were the most common form of mineral supplementation.
